This week I have another snippet from my co written New Adult book Uptaged Opening Act.

Wannabe singer and band front man Erik Von Nordgren hates snarky Brit Asher Berkley with a passion. From the moment he turns up at practice with his twin sister Daisy, who is one of the band the two have hated each other.

Through a series of ‘tit for tat’ incidents they annoy, frustrate and exasperated each other. The die hard goth with purple eyes and the hard core rocker with dreams of the big time have nothing in common and no need to cross paths. Except to wind each other up.

Until the day that Erik throws Asher in the school pool, when everything begins to change. Erik is so far in closet he’s in Narnia and Asher has a dark past and trust issues that stand in the way of any relationship, let alone one with the brash American who hurts him every time they try to get together.

A relationship doomed from the start, or so you’d think.

After almost drowning Asher in the school pool, Erik calls off hostilities and invites Asher to go to a party at one of the band member’s home. Asher agrees, but realizes quickly enough that Erik has absolutely no intention of coming out. After a showdown with Billy, Erik makes it crystal clear that Asher can’t expect their relationship to be out in the open. Asher can’t handle that, not again, so he ends things and leaves.

After bumping into Vince, one of the band ‘groupies’, a tubby boy with no self esteem, Asher feels he has found a kindred spirit, knowing as well as he does what it’s like to be the outcast. They spend the night together, and at school the next day, Vince has no problems putting their relationship on display. Erik, however, is not impressed.

I’m VERY sorry but there’s no way this can be done in six sentences. I’ve kept it as short as I can.

“You regularly end your dates by taking off with other guys? Huh? That’s messed up, Asher. Well, I won’t play this game with you either. You want me? You gotta come get me. Vince, nice job. I’m sure it didn’t take much seduction on your part, did it?” He snorted. “I hope you used condoms.”

“Who the fuck do you think you are?” Asher snapped. “Come get you? In your dreams. Like you’re some kind of god. You click your fingers and men fall at your feet. Oh, sorry, that’s right, how stupid of me. You wouldn’t want men falling at your feet anyway. And you take that tone out of your voice when you talk to Vince. He’s more of a man than you’ll ever be. He’s honest about who he is and how he feels.”

With his temper rising, Erik stared at Asher. “You stuck-up, freaky-looking asshole! I’ll tell you one thing, I’m not seeing a man right now. You’re a spoiled little gothic brat from Hell. I guarantee you, Asher, most guys are like me. We’re not all little puppy dogs that come running when you’re the least bit upset. I’m a real man, and this real man has had it with you, your rules, and your whiny shit.”
