Dreams can come true, but sometimes they’re nightmares.

The Von are on their way.  With a recording contract under their belt and a tour opening for a popular band, they have the world at their feet.  For those left behind, prospects are not so bright, especially with someone trying so hard to break them apart.

With the spotlight on The Von, no one sees the evil waiting in the wings until it’s too late.

In Upstaged: Opening Act. We were introduced to The Von and their friends and have discovered what a tumultuous relationship the lead singer Erik has with his boyfriend Asher. Those two have no business being together but somehow they’ve made it work for a year and by the time we arrive at Upstaged 2: Waiting in the Wings they’ve been living together for a few months in a shared house with another band member, Erik’s best friend, Billy, and Billy’s boyfriend, Vince.

Erik and Billy have let the pressure go to their heads and they’ve been naughty boys, caught kissing on camera not once, but twice. Billy and Vince have managed to sort it out but Asher is not so forgiving. Not only that but when the identity of the mysterious cameraman is revealed, and Erik is plunged into a nightmare.

Asher walks into the spider web to save Erik, and once he has Asher back in his clutches, he loses no time in twisting his mind until he doesn’t know what’s real and what isn’t, something that’s just turned deadly for Erik

This snippet follows on immediately from the last, which some people seemed to think was a cliffhanger 😀

He tried to raise his hands but couldn’t. “Don’t shoot, please. I-I can’t raise my hands.” He couldn’t see any badges, so he had no idea if these were police or somebody else. “Sir, please… James did all of this. He’s the one.” Asher stirred in his lap.

“What’s your name?”

“Erik Von Nordgren, sir,” he said quickly. “This is Asher Berkley.”

“Goddammit,” the man said in a thick Italian accent as he holstered his gun and released Erik’s arms. “What the fuck was he doing standing over you with a knife?”

Relieved to have his arms free at last, he hoisted Asher onto his lap. “James convinced him I was a demon and had to be killed. He drugged and brainwashed him. He drugged me, too.”

The man was hefty and wore the nicest black suit Erik had ever seen. He was definitely no cop. Italian? Suit? These had to be some of Vince’s family friends.

“We have to find James We’re not safe until—” Erik’s voice cut off when he saw one of the other two men lifting James’s lifeless body from the floor beside them. The man who’d been talking to him rattled off something in rapid Italian, and the other man nodded and disappeared with the corpse in his arms.

Erik felt a huge relief that James was dead, but he had to wonder what hold he still might have over Asher, even in death. He hoisted Asher further up onto his lap, wondering why he wasn’t moving.

“Jesus fucking Christ,” he gasped. Blood poured from a gunshot wound to Asher’s shoulder.

Well, you can’t blame them, can you? They thought he was about to murder Erik – which he was.
