Dreams can come true, but sometimes they’re nightmares.
The Von are on their way. With a recording contract under their belt and a tour opening for a popular band, they have the world at their feet. For those left behind, prospects are not so bright, especially with someone trying so hard to break them apart.
With the spotlight on The Von, no one sees the evil waiting in the wings until it’s too late.

I have been sharing snippets from my first co-written book Upstaged: Opening Act. We’ve been introduced to The Von and their friends and have discovered what a tumultuous relationship the lead singer Erik has with his boyfriend Asher. Those two have no business being together but somehow they’ve made it work for a year and by the time we arrive at Upstaged 2: Waiting in the Wings they’ve been living together for a few months in a shared house with another band member, Erik’s best friend, Billy, and Billy’s boyfriend, Vince.
The Von are taking off and they’ve signed a record deal which includes a tour. Due to his traumatic past and the rocky road their relationship has travelled, Asher is not dealing well with that prospect. Erik has lied to Asher and reassured him they would be making an album but not touring. He has also talked the others into deceiving Asher, something Asher’s twin, Daisy is not at all happy about. Now, faced with the imminence of a three month UK tour and a life-changing opportunity to open for a popular band, Erik comes face to face with the realization that his deceit might not have been his brightest idea.

“Daisy…”
Daisy shook her head. “Later, Erik.”
Joey looked his way. “Dude, you don’t look so good.”
“I’m not. I need some air for a sec.” His stomach threatened to get rid of his tasty lunch, and he had to get gone from that room. His decision was torturing him, and the guilt was crushing. He shot a glance at Billy and Vince, and even that tugged at him. He ran outside.

Oh, bad move. ~shakes head~ Nicely written. Thank you for sharing. And Happy Writing!
Erik’s an idiot. Honestly, sometimes I don’t see what Asher sees in him 😀
Uh, oh. Poor guy.
He’s brought it all on himself by being a complete idiot.
Ouch, I can’t help pitying him in spite of everything.
Erik is the kind of person who’s kind of a jerk but his heart’s in the right place and he really does try to get things right but his own dickishness gets in the way. At this point he’s only a teenager and he does grow up through the books. How his relationship with Asher ever survived the first few years though I will never know
*shakes head* 😉
Quite 😀
Nice tense snip!
I have to admit I don’t feel much sympathy for him here. Sounds as if he manipulated everyone and now can’t face the consequences.
Well, he did, but to be fair his boyfriend is not exactly mentally stable so he does have a point. Of course he went about it all wrong but Asher is enough to do everyone’s head in and he hasn’t got anywhere near his worst point yet. That’s a few books away
I’m a big believer in karma, so…
Oh yes, Karma bites his ass and she bites it good
Sounds like someone’s conscience has kicked in.
I have to be fair to Erik, he does his best, but he can be a right dick sometimes 😀
Oh, dear. Nice tense snippet.
Thank you. Poor Erik, he makes it hard for himself but God I remember what it was like to be a teenager with all those raging hormones and a strong desire to avoid anything hard – well almost anything
Uh oh. That doesn’t sound good. Sounds like Erik needs to start being honest with people or he’ll be in this state permanently.
He usually is, honest to a fault, but Asher is…well…he’s enough to turn any man to drink. Erik does his best but high maintenance isn’t the word for it. Erik did this all wrong, but it was never malicious.
I’m not feeling any sympathy for him.
Seriously, who makes and releases an album and doesn’t hope/expect to tour?
(And I kind of wonder if Asher knows that and is kind of expecting it…)
And he can always take Asher along, right?
