What is Rainbow Snippets? It’s a group of LGBT+ authors who post six sentences (or more) from a current WIP, published work or even something they’ve read that they want to rave about. Click in the rainbow to be transported to a place of wonder where you will find tasters of everything from sweet romance, to hot and steamy, to fantasy and sci fi
Before going back, to catch up with Ariel and his misadventures, I’ll give you one more snippet from my sweet YA about my favourite blind boy.
There are those who can’t see and those who don’t want to, but we’re all blind sometimes.
Ace is blind and Haze is damaged. They live in different worlds and not everyone is happy when they become boyfriends. Haze is struggling with the after effects of a traumatic event in his past that has left him at the mercy of an uncontrollable rage. When Ace’s brother steps up his campaign of torment against Ace, they’re all in danger from Haze’s outbursts, though it isn’t until things get completely out of control that the healing can really begin. But with Ace unseeing and Haze perched on the edge of a cliff, will either of them survive long enough to benefit?
This is a little over six sentences but it’s a really sweet scene where Ace is showing Haze his Braille keyboard.
I shivered once more as he leaned over my shoulder. His long supple fingers placed my hands on the keyboard and rested lightly on top of mine.
“This is ‘H’.” He gently brushed the tip of my finger over the key. “Can you feel it?”
“I… I’m not sure. What am I trying to feel?”
“Braille is written as a series of dots over a six spot grid. Every letter is represented as raised dots somewhere on that grid. ‘H’ is represented as three raised dots like a letter L at the top of the grid.”
He leaned in closer and placed his finger over mine, barely touching, rotating the tip of my finger over the key. I could feel his breath on my cheek, smell the scent of his cologne, and feel the brush of his hair against my skin. How the hell was I supposed to be able to concentrate on the keys?
“Are you feeling it?”
“Oh, yes.” Oh, God yes…yes, I’m feeling it.

How exciting for him to discover he’ll be able to read. 🙂
Love that opening line to your blurb! ♡
I’m sorry, I think the snippet is misleading. Ace is the one who is blind. He’s showing his new “friend” Haze around his room. Among other things he’s showing him his Braille typewriter. He also has the complete collection of Harry Potter books in Braille. Ace is well sorted 😀
Absolutely beautiful description!
Thank you 😀
Ah, I LOVE how sensory this is. It’s just gorgeous.
Thank you. The good thing about working with a blind character is that you’re forced to focus on the other senses and it makes for some lovely sensuous descriptions. At least that’s what I’ve found in other books I’ve read and I hope it comes through in mine.
I don’t think Haze is feeling what Ace is trying to get him to feel…
Ace is a wonderful character but he can be too naive for his own good. I would be very surprised if Ace were thinking anything like you are right now.
Oh that is delightfully sweet. I love teaching moments in romance. Great snippet, Cheryl. 🙂
Thank you. I think there can be something extremely sexy and erotic in one person teaching another something, especially something important and especially when it involved touching. For example, learning a golf swing or how to hold a fishing pole can be incredibly erotic.
I bet he’s feeling it! 🙂 Love the description.
He’s definitely feeling something. Given the situation I doubt it’s what you’re thinking 😀 😀
