This is an exciting time for me. We’re working up to publishing Book III in the Enigma series, which is far and away my favourite series of books ever. (Well, okay it’s the first series I’ve written, but the characters are real and I’m in love with Silver – for real.)
I have only published the first two books so far and have hesitated because I’m cautious about the editing of these books. Because they are being published very kindly by a friend, they are practically self published and therefore the weight of editing is down to me. I’m brassic so I can’t pay for anyone to do it for me, therefore they’re rough and I don’t want people to see Silver and his friends that way. However, the alternative is for people not to see them at all and they are no longer happy about that. Ariel, in particular wants to be SEEN and I can’t deny him for long.
Therefore, Red Haircrow, who is a very talented and dear man has been working hard on new covers. The cover of Book I has already been revealed.
In a few weeks the cover of Book II will be revealed and for the following week, leading up to the release of Book III, Books I and II will be free. This is because the series is not stand alone and anyone wanting to buy Book III should really read I and II first.
In preparation for all that, I thought I would introduce some of the characters and situations from the first two books.
Book I Enigma
Troubled residents come and go at the Care House where River Caulfield is a caregiver, working towards fulfilling his dream of becoming a nurse. When Silver arrives, a patient found on a roadside near death after suffering terrible abuse, River finds his previous personal detachment is compromised. Seeking to help the mysterious and enigmatic young man locked inside his own mind and memories, River finds his professionalism slipping as Silver begins to open up and live again.
But as their relationship begins to blossom, the roots of Silver’s past abuse and the abuser who forced him into such a mental state sends forth new shoots of darkness enveloping them in dangers threatening not only Silver’s sanity, but their very lives. With River’s devotion and help, will Silver finally be able to break away from his past? The answer lies in the words of a priest, a painting and a long walk through a churchyard harbouring the secrets of the enigma that is Silver.
Last time, we met Silver, and this time, we have a tiny insight into the way Silver is at the beginning of the book.
“Do you want some coffee?”
Silver turns to Max and gives him the same empty look. “Coffee?” Max holds up a mug and Silver stares at it.
“Try him with some, Max. I don’t think he’s good at making decisions.”
Max nods and pours a mug of coffee, putting milk and sugar in it. He hands it to Silver, who takes it, stares at it for a while, and then releases it with a cry. The mug falls to the ground and smashes on the tiles, splashing everyone, causing them to jump back, except Silver.
