Rainbow Snippets is a facebook group where members post six sentences of a LGBT work, their own or in promotion of someone else, together with a link to the group page (just click the picture). The link to this post is then posted on the group page.
The idea is that readers go to the thread and sample the work of multiple authors then have the opportunity to open discussions with the authors either on their post or generally.
Today’s snippet is from my new book from Wayward Ink Press due to be released on May 4th. Lab Rat is a new incarnation of a book previously published under he title The Unfairness Of Life and is about a young man who was an unwilling participant in a government experiment in his early teens. Here is the blurb
At thirteen, Gabriel was subjected to experimentation designed to awaken latent psychic abilities.
He’s been locked in a downward spiral of self-destruction ever since.
Then one night he meets Laurie, who is the antithesis of everything he’s become: cheerful, optimistic, and comfortable in his own skin.
Laurie pursues Gabriel. But Gabriel no longer believes in love. With a dark past and a history of disastrous relationships, he’s promised himself ‘no more’. Laurie, however, won’t let go, no matter how many obstacles Gabriel places in his way.
When Gabriel starts hearing voices in his head, he realizes they belong to the scientists who experimented on him. Worse, they’re trying to track him down.
With the past nipping at his heels, Gabriel and Laurie flee together.
Can they outrun the enemy? Can they save Gabriel before either his life or his sanity are forfeit?
And is Gabriel as helpless as he, or Laurie, thinks he is?
and here’s the first snippet
LIFE SUCKS. I mean really sucks. I’m a good person, so why do bad things keep happening to me? While I’m not really the type to help old ladies across the road—I’d probably scare them into a heart attack—I don’t go out of my way to hurt people either. And yet….

Exciting blurb. Poor Gabriel! I hope the answer to the final question in the blurb is a resounding “NO”!
Absolutely! Gabriel is vulnerable but so not weak. Thank you for your comment
Love the sound of this one. Poor Kid.
Thank you. Gabriel had been through and is going through the wringer, but I doubt he’d welcome sympathy. He may be broken, but he’s tough.
This sounds really interesting and dark. Gabriel’s a bit melodramatic at the beginning there, but I suspect he’s not exaggerating.
This is definitely dark. Gabriel is sure melodramatic! That doesn’t change through the book.
Yikes! Intense scene, but this sounds like an intriguing story.
Thank you. I think so 🙂 This is actually the very first paragraph.
Oh, poor Gabriel! This sounds like it has the potential to make me grab for the Kleenex, as all your books do, Cheryl. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
I think this one is more angsty and angry than weepy per se. Gabriel is angry and bitter and stubborn and whilst a lot happens to him he doesn’t invite sympathy or tears. I’m not even so sure that Gabriel is a likeable character per se. Laurie is a real sweetie and has his work cut out. Both boy have suffered but one let the suffering break them while the other used it to get stronger.
Intriguing blurb. And I love the line about the little old ladies. LOL
