The snippet comes from my latest release Enigma III – Friends and Family
Blurb: Silver and River are healing, but both are still struggling to reconcile Silver’s life before his time at the Theatre De La Vie, with after. It doesn’t help that Ariel keeps coming around and causing trouble. When he encourages Silver to collect Ben from school he unleashes a can of worms that could easily have had fatal consequences.
Another example of Ariel’s brand of wisdom. The two have been talking about Asher, who stepped in front of a knife for Silver in Fighting the Man Silver hasn’t been able to talk to River about what happened, because he knows that, deep down, River believes Silver cheated on him, and he hates Asher for it, if not himself. He therefore has never cried for his friend and lover – until now.
“No.” I feel hollow, empty. There’s a hole inside me that’s been there since the day Asher died. I haven’t been able to look at it, to acknowledge it’s there because if I had I’d have had to look at what used to be there. Now I can’t ignore it anymore. It’s filled up with tears and I’m drowning in it. “How could I cry? How could I let River see me like this? To know why? He knows about Ash, of course he does, and he knows how I felt about him but… knowing isn’t the same as seeing. How could I do that to him?”
“How could you do it to yourself?”

aw, powerful, sad, and complicated…
Silver is very much in love with River, but the relationship was way too dependent. Then, when Silver ran away he met Asher and found that there was more tot he world than Riverr. He loved Asher, too then Asher stepped in front of a knife meant for SIlver and died in his arms. Silver had a lot to process but he can’t speak to River about it because River is jealous of Asher and Ariel because Silver flourished far more under their care than he had with River.
It is a very complicated situation which is why there are two whole books leading up to it 😀
His emotion is palpable. Lovely snip!
Thank you. I am in love with Silver and I hope that comes through when I write it. Unfortunately, I have a tendency to torture the characters I love most. With Silver at least it’s (mostly) emotional
Poor Silver!
I know! He’s been through such a lot, but things improve for him in the rest of this book
Aww, poor Silver. I can’t wait to read this one.
Thank you. This book is far more cathartic for both Silver and River. Both of them come on a lot. In fact, this book is more about Ben and Ariel. Oh that Ariel!
Aww poor Silver.
He’s too innocent for a world like this and he’s never been able to mourn the death of his friend and lover because his boyfriend (they were on a break at the time. Unlike Friends it was a real break and Silver truly thought it was over) was too jealous to be able to hear anything positive about Asher even though he’s dead, Ariel shakes them up pretty good though
So much pain in this. And that last line is awesome.
The first part of the book, as it carried on from the last, is full of this kind of intense emotion, but the rest of it is much lighter especially when we get into Ariel’s antics, trying to find love.
Sounds like a really complicated situation, but I would hope he could help River understand.
It’s definitely complicated, given there are two books leading up to it. Silver has gone a long way from being a mindless sex slave, but he’s hopelessly naive and lost in any relationship issues. Ariel is far more worldly and tries his hardest to help, but River is Silver’s whole world and he’s terrified of hurting him.
That’s a lovely snip. The last line is especially true.
Thank you. I think you’re very right about the last line
You can really feel the emotion in this snippet.
Thank you. If there’s one thing you can guarantee about my writing, it’s that there’s a lot of emotion in it.
