This week I have another snippet from my co written New Adult book Upstaged Opening Act.
Wannabe singer and band front man Erik Von Nordgren hates snarky Brit Asher Berkley with a passion. From the moment he turns up at practice with his twin sister Daisy, who is one of the band the two have hated each other.
Through a series of ‘tit for tat’ incidents they annoy, frustrate and exasperated each other. The die hard goth with purple eyes and the hard core rocker with dreams of the big time have nothing in common and no need to cross paths. Except to wind each other up.
Until the day that Erik throws Asher in the school pool, when everything begins to change. Erik is so far in closet he’s in Narnia and Asher has a dark past and trust issues that stand in the way of any relationship, let alone one with the brash American who hurts him every time they try to get together.
A relationship doomed from the start, or so you’d think.

Erik’s being a bit of an asshole, so I thought I’d give you a quick idea of why he is as he is. Of course, part of the reason is that he really is a big, lumbering meathead *wink, Sorry Steph*
Holy moly, no way could he admit any of that. Not right now, that’s for sure. Certainly not in front of his mother and especially not to his father. He knew what would happen. That story of Cousin Dagny would be dredged up, the guy who was gay and hanged himself because of rejection. The big horrible family secret that no one ever mentioned. He was doomed all the way around.
And now it’s time for you all to click on the rainbow above and taste snippets from all the other amazing writers in one of the best
Aw, I kind of want to know more about poor Cousin Dagny. ♡
Sadly, he’s had his moment in the spotlight and will now fade into history to be forgotten. He’s left quite a legacy though and at least he’s remembered by the family even if for all the wrong reasons.
Aww, poor cousin Dagny. No wonder Erik’s in the closet 🙁
Absolutely.
Behind every meathead, there’s a meat locker filled with forbidden meat, poor Erik. (wry grin)
Tell me about it. Poor Erik. Mind you he’s only got himself to blame for most of his angst and it doesn’t end when he comes out. He’s his own worse enemy, as is Asher but in a completely different way.
Good stuff. Thank you for sharing. And Happy Writing!
Thank you for reading and commenting. We had such fun writing this series, and we haven’t finished yet. We’ve left off half way through book 12 with at least another one, and that’s if the characters let us go. There are so many of them they all want to have their voice. Every book introduced new charavters and the later books follow the next generation, so you can imagine there are plenty of character voices.
Ouch. That’s some sad family history.
There are always skeletons. Some are more tragic than others. This one surely made an impact on Erik. the only thing is, it made an impact for the wrong reason.
I think it’s the “rejection” part of Dagny’s story they’re all missing…
I think Erik is missing it too. I believe that if he went back and examined the conversations around the incident, he has the kind of close family that would be more concerned about the fact he was rejected than what he was rejected for. Erik has a tendency, which will manifest throughout the books, to misunderstand on the side of whatever is detrimental to him. He assumes the worse and makes it happen.
Oh, that’s a tough history to rectify. Hope he’s successful at turning it on its ear.
