Rainbow Snippets is a facebook group where members post six sentences of a LGBT work, their own or in promotion of someone else, together with a link to the group page. The link to this post is then posted on the group page.
The idea is that readers go to the thread and sample the work of multiple authors then have the opportunity to open discussions with the authors either on their post or generally.
Personally, I am the most interested in discussions with those who have, or who are interested in reading my work, and there is plenty of it out there free here, on my blog or on http://www.gayauthors.org/index.html I love to talk to people and would like to think I’m approachable enough for anyone to talk to me. I’d be upset to think I wasn’t.
Anyway, here is my snippet this week. It’s from my teen sci fi book Hostage More information and alternative sales links can be found by clicking the book cover on the Home page.
“Rowan,” Astrin whispered, and Rowan had no choice but to open his eyes. The glowing green orbs, which had been dominating his dreams so much of late, were mere inches from his own. They were shining brightly, the pupils widely dilated, and Rowan fell into them.
Licking his lips in a way that made Rowan feel queasy, Astrin leaned forward again, until their lips met in the most exquisite kiss Rowan had ever experienced, albeit one of the briefest.
Astrin looked confused when he raised his head, scaring Rowan half to death. He grinned, a beatific, if vacant expression on his face and said, “That was cool.” Then he passed out.
Nice! I haven’t got round to reading this one yet and can’t wait. I totally adored the last 3 – Enigma, Ari and Face in the Window, xx
Thank you. Have you read Project X? That’s with WIP also
I’ve very much enjoyed reading yours, too. I absolutely adored Finding Beck, but Beautiful Thunder remains my favourite. Or is it the other way around? Gnah. Can’t decide 🙂 And I can’t wait for the new one. I’m on the blog tour and so excited.
The first two paragraphs are so sweet and intense and then… What happened to Astrin? Rowan isn’t the only one scared half to death!
Don’t worry, Astrin is rat arsed, sozzled, drunk as a skunk 🙂 They started out arch enemies, grew into friends on a deadly mission, and eventually Rowan acknowledged feelings for Astrin. Astrin is in complete denial and this is the first hint he might be heading towards having feelings for Rowan, too 🙂
I’m so glad! Such a sweet scene. I love sci fi–with or without relationships added!
My poor TBR list is growing! 😀
Enemies to friends/lovers is always great. Like the humor at the end added to the intensity of a hot romantic scene.
Thank you for your comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the snippet. At its heart the story is a sci fi adventure and the relationship is not the focus at all. However, I think it adds an extra dimension, and these two were SO much fun to write. They basically wrote themselves and the way they bounce off each other led to some very humorous moments
You’re an expert in gentle kisses and beautiful names. This definitely comes from a book I’d want to read.:)
Thank you 🙂
Hostage is a fun book, very different to Shade’s Champion, but it has its own darkness.
enemies to lovers always makes for an amazing read. I was worried too when he passed out, good to know he is only drunk. 🙂
I loved how much meaning showed through such simple kiss.
LOl, all that sweet tenderness then he passes out. Nice twist.
Sadly, he wouldn’t have done it at all if he hadn’t been sozzled 🙁 He must be part Egyptian because he’s so far in deNile he can’t see the shore. Well no, that’s not entirely true. He sees the shore but he’s frantically paddling in the opposite direction 🙂
“then he passed out” neat ending to the paragraph 😀
Thank you. Don’t you just love it when young people get drunk and lose it. He’s going to SO regret this in the morning for more than one reason 🙂
Sweet – though I’m not sure about Rowan feeling queasy when Astrin licked his lips!
It was entirely with nerves. He’s been longing for this moment for a long time, afraid to hope. Then when he gets here, Astrin is so drunk he has no idea what’s going to happen next. Astrin could just as easily have punched him.
Great stuff – I do like a bit of sci fi!
Thank you.
I’ll put a more sci fi bit in next week
Oh no! What just happened? Need more of this, please. 🙂
Don’t worry, he’s only drunk this time. The torture doesn’t come until later 😀 Ooops, no make that has already been and will come again later 🙂
Great finish to the kiss LOL.
Thank you. It’s slightly misleading out of context. There’s a lot going on, but it’s preceded by quiet a comedic scene when Rowan struggles to get a roaring drunk Astrin home.
